Hi Alice! The critiques that you make about the goth scene really appeal to me and I’m a huge fan of yours ^.^ So anyway, my question has to do with skin colour. I have a pretty dark complexion (I’m Egyptian). I mostly love how I look, no questions asked, but it has made me realized how incredibly white-centered the goth & metal scenes are… They’re pretty exclusive when it comes to that and I have sometimes felt a pressure to literally “look whiter”. What’s your opinion?
My thoughts on the white-washing issue (especially in goth) have always been “fuck that.” It’s antiquated thinking, and not the fun, romantic kind.
If anything, I absolutely adore people who have darker complexions that do intense makeup in colors or metallics, and dress up in any matter of fun ways. Since you’re on anon and I obviously can’t see you to verify, I’m sure you’ll rock whatever look you go for! Goths who judge other goths for their ethnicity are assholes as far as I’m concerned.
